Job Description
Job Summary
The team member is responsible for analytical evaluation of blood and body fluids, performing all laboratory procedures including culture analysis, workup, quality control, specimen processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory results. The team member must exercise critical thinking, make decisions, and solve problems. They will assist in evaluating new or modified techniques when required. They will also advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary. The primary duties will be in Microbiology, with opportunities to cross-train in other laboratory areas for the right candidate. Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related fields is required. Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology or MT program is preferred. If graduated before 1987, four-year certification is recognized as MT. Experience: MLS I: One year of clinical experience (clinical internships of 12 months meet this requirement), preferred. MLS II: Five years of experience in a clinical laboratory required; leadership or quality management experience is preferred. Licensure/Certification:
Certification from ASCP or AMT (MT/MLS) is required. Additional Skills: New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire; failure to do so may result in termination. Participants in certification maintenance programs as required by certifying bodies. Knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory equipment, and testing procedures. Skills in performing laboratory tests, troubleshooting, quality assurance, and establishing effective relationships. Ability to read and understand laboratory instrumentation information, follow protocols, work independently, and communicate clearly.
