Position Summary: Synergy is seeking a Software Developer, System Software (SME) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC)-Information Systems Division (ISD). The Software Developer will ensure the system software's secure and continuous performance, supporting the USCG's aviation logistics mission. This role demands expert-level technical proficiency across enterprise systems and hybrid environments, including modern DevSecOps practices, cloud integrations, virtualization, and legacy system sustainment. The Software Developer will drive vulnerability remediation, optimize performance, and guide modernization initiatives to ensure operational continuity in a secure and mission-aligned environment. Primary Responsibilities: Serve as the technical lead for the sustainment, remediation, and performance management of system-level software in RHEL, Windows, VMware, Azure, and Kubernetes environments. Architect and optimize enterprise-scale platforms that integrate legacy applications (SAS, OpenROAD, Ingres) with containerized and cloud-ready infrastructure. Proactively monitor software and system health, identify performance bottlenecks, and lead incident response for mission-critical platforms. Perform and validate security remediation actions based on vulnerability scan reports to ensure compliance with standards like STIG, DHS 4300A, and NIST 800-53. Develop and maintain automation using Bash, PowerShell, or Python for deployment, patching, and configuration management. Lead configuration, patching, and enhancement of virtualized platforms and container orchestration environments. Collaborate with cyber, development, and engineering teams to maintain secure operations and support accreditation activities. Document configurations, system diagrams, and recovery procedures for audit-readiness. Participate in change management, Agile sprints, and DevSecOps pipelines. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers and engineers. Skills/Qualifications: Deep expertise in RHEL, Windows Server, VMware, Azure, and containerization. Proven experience in vulnerability remediation, STIG implementation, and managing hardened configurations. Experience with legacy software stacks like SAS and OpenROAD, alongside DevSecOps tooling. Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Ability to troubleshoot complex environments, including Tier III support. Familiarity with backup, disaster recovery, and system health monitoring tools. Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a related field or six years of relevant experience. Minimum six years in RHEL, Windows, VMWare, SAS, and security remediation. Experience with Agile DevSecOps environments and tools like Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. Support experience within DHS or DoD environments is preferred. Clearance and Certifications: U.S. citizenship required; eligible for Public Trust or DoD Secret Clearance. CompTIA Security+ certification required; additional certifications are a plus.
