NKU business hours are Monday-Friday 8:15-4:30. This position will require nights, weekends, and being on call. Hours per Week 37.5 Months per Year 12 Purpose of Position Serving as the Senior Housing Officer ( SHO ) and Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of University Housing and Residence Life provides departmental leadership for all aspects of University Housing operations and residential student engagement. The Director directly supervises an Associate Director of Residence Life, an Associate Director of Operations, an Associate Director of Facilities, and an Administrative Assistant while serving as a liaison with administration, students and the community.
The Director manages two residential villages (which include traditional residence halls, suite style buildings, and modified apartments) serving a total residential population of nearly 2,000. The Director serves the interest of all University Housing students, ensures smooth operations, and guarantees quality customer service for all constituents (students campus partners prospective families etc.). In addition, the Director assists the Vice President of Student Affairs with programs, activities, and tasks related to the overall mission of student engagement and development. Primary Responsibilities
Residence Life · Cultivate an environment that promotes residential student engagement, co-curricular programming, and a sense of belonging. · Oversee the creation of departmental strategic goals and translate them into specific objectives within the Office of University Housing. · Supervise the Associate Director of Residence Life and provide indirect supervision for Residence Life Coordinators, Assistant Residence Life Coordinators (graduate assistants), Resident Assistants, Desk Assistants, and other undergraduate student employees. Housing Operations Supervise the Associate Director of Housing Operations and provide leadership in coordinating housing processes, crisis management, and residential student services. Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure organized, efficient, and quality housing for students. Manage and adjudicate requests for exceptions and appeals related to housing contract policies, residency requirements, and meal plan exemptions. Business Operations
Manage auxiliary budgets totaling over $8.4 million and allocate funds for student programs, facility improvements, and professional development. Develop financial plans for revenue generation and oversee procurement processes related to housing space and service enhancements. Leadership and Collaboration
Work closely with students, administration, faculty, and other campus partners to ensure a high level of customer service and satisfaction within the housing community. Assist the Vice President of Student Affairs with initiatives related to student engagement, campus life, and student development. Qualifications Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field. Minimum of 6–8 years of progressively responsible experience in university housing, residence life, or student affairs, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Demonstrated experience managing housing operations, including occupancy planning, assignments, and residential facilities coordination.
• In-depth knowledge of residential life operations, including housing assignments, occupancy management, and facilities coordination. • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in residential education and engagement Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing professional and student staff • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with students, campus departments, and external partners • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for diverse internal and external audiences • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations, including housing assignments, facilities, and crisis response • Experience with budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation in an auxiliary services environment • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy in sensitive or high-stakes situations Familiarity with housing management systems and related technologies (e.g., StarRez, RMS ) Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
