This role facilitates the implementation of projects within the Department of Information Technology (IT), utilizing IT project management methods and procedures for effective project portfolio analysis and resource allocation. The position works closely with IT management and various stakeholders, including University of Houston System component universities and institutes, university departments, colleges, and divisions, to support IT goals. The main responsibilities include: Developing IT project plans using established management methods, including project charters, statements of work, and business case descriptions. Establishing and directing project management plans, activities, tasks, and team members. Executing project plans according to established methods and procedures. Providing guidance and direction to project team members. Preparing activity, budget, and progress reports. Assisting other IT project management staff with project activities. Representing the university to external agencies and groups as required. Performing other related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications
A thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline is required, typically obtained through a 4-year college degree or equivalent specialized training. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant job-related experience and professional licensing, certification, or registration related to the role are also required. Additional Posting Information
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-Hour construction safety certification is a plus. RCDD certification is preferred. Minimum five (5) years of project management experience in networking infrastructure, construction projects, fiber/cabling projects, or related fields. Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. Experience reviewing construction plans from design development through construction documentation. Willingness to visit active construction sites regularly. Facility and site experience evaluating infrastructure, including blueprints, MDF/IDF layouts, fiber, riser cables, racks, and power systems. Knowledge of Outside Plant standards, BICSI standards, and applicable NEC regulations. Understanding of IEEE standards for networking, Wi-Fi, security systems, VOIP, and distributed systems infrastructure. Experience ensuring compliance with standards like EIA/TIA 568-A and UH Network Infrastructure Standards. Experience managing large-scale networking projects in higher education or similar environments. Ability to report weekly project status and oversee materials management.
