ArcelorMittal Global R&D East Chicago Center is looking for a skilled engineer to join the Electrical Steel applications team. The engineer will work with customers as part of a dedicated team promoting non-oriented electrical steel products, collaborating with global product experts, development, and plant teams. Knowledge of high-efficiency motor design and its relation to NOES products and downstream processes is essential. A deep understanding of electromagnetism and electromagnetic materials influencing motor design and performance is required. The position reports to the Global R&D product portfolio team but is based in Southfield, MI. Job Description: The candidate should have a strong engineering background, expertise in electrical motor design, and experience interacting with customers to identify suitable applications or guide R&D on new product development to meet customer demands. Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration are necessary. Knowledge of advanced data analysis techniques, including AI, is desirable. Collaboration with sister research labs is required. The role involves domestic and international travel up to 40%. Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Follow all safety requirements. • Promote appropriate NOES products for specific motor applications. • Enhance ArcelorMittal’s brand value. • Act as the voice of the customer and represent ArcelorMittal at standards committees. • Monitor competitive threats. • Lead and execute R&D projects within timelines and budgets. Experience Requirements: Minimum/Basic: • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field • Understanding of motor design and influence of NOES products • Knowledge of electromagnetism and electromagnetic theory • Strategic thinking, aided by AI techniques • Problem-solving and analytical skills • Strong communication and teamwork • Ability to manage multiple projects and travel at least 40% Preferred: • MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering • Project management skills • Excellent presentation skills • Deep knowledge of electromagnetic theory and modeling • Project planning and management proficiency What we offer Competitive salary, bonus, paid vacation, 401k match, health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
