Lead Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer Description
Lead Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer
Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill an immediate position for a full-time Lead Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer. Teal is focused on creating world-class system solutions serving a broad range of applications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Teal is working to deliver state-of-the-art, high-quality, high-performance robotic systems to address the growing demand in the drone industry.
This position is located at the Teal facility in South Salt Lake City
Duties And Responsibilities
Design, prototype, implement, and test new flight behaviors to meet customer needs Lead, build and mentor a world class guidance, navigation and control engineering team Collaborate with interdepartmental functional groups Tune and enhance payload state estimation, sensors, and control Perform trade studies to determine optimal sensor selection and placement Refine and improve flight performance of deployed systems Review flight telemetry to verify/validate new features or assess flight anomalies on deployed systems Perform research and development of advanced states estimation and control techniques Collaborate with autonomy and software engineers to integrate advanced new features into the flight stack Develop analysis tools to process flight telemetry Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelors degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with a focus in robotics and/or control systems. Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to include engineering and non-engineering teammates Ability to follow through on tasks as an individual contributor Comfortable performing data analysis in either Matlab or Python Comfortable working with a variety of programming languages, including C/C++
Additional Desired Attributes And Skills
Familiarity with the PX4 flight stack Familiarity with configuration management and build tools such as Git, Gitlab, and Jenkins Familiarity with quadcopter flight dynamics, state estimation, and control techniques Possess a Part 107 pilots license Previous experience flying quadcopters Conceptual understanding of common flight sensors such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, and GPS receivers
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or in a lab environment Manual dexterity for operating hardware, electronic components, or testing tools Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally for equipment or test setups Capacity to move between lab, office, and test areas as required Visual acuity to read screens, technical documents, and assess flight telemetry or test results Occasional travel or field testing may be required.
