Cytotechnologist
Location: Asheville, NC
Shift: Mon-Fri 6am or 7am start time (8hr shift)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cytotechnologist to join our laboratory team in Asheville, North Carolina. The ideal candidate will be responsible for screening and evaluating cytological specimens to detect cancer, precancerous changes, and other abnormalities. This role is vital to providing accurate and timely diagnoses that support optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Microscopic Examination: Screen gynecologic (GYN) and non-gynecologic (non-GYN) cytology specimens (e.g., Pap smears, body fluids).
Analysis and Reporting: Accurately interpret findings and mark areas of interest for review by the pathologist. Prepare written reports on findings when required.
Quality Assurance: Participate in routine quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state regulations.
Record Keeping: Maintain thorough and accurate records of all slides examined and ensure timely documentation in laboratory information systems (LIS).
Collaboration: Work closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, and clinicians to ensure timely communication of significant findings.
Compliance & Safety: Follow all laboratory protocols and adhere to health and safety standards.
Continuous Education: Maintain current knowledge of developments in the field of cytology and participate in continuing education as required for certification renewal.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or related biological sciences.
Graduation from an accredited Cytotechnology program.
Certified (or eligible) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
Preferred:
At least 1 year of experience in a clinical cytology laboratory.
Experience with both GYN and non-GYN specimens.
Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital imaging tools.
