The Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and related documentation. This role also plays a key part in identifying and implementing tax strategies to minimize the organization's tax liability in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position requires close collaboration with internal departments, external advisors, and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns
Ensure timely payment of estimated tax payments
Respond to and resolve tax notices received from various tax authorities
Maintain accurate records and workpapers to support all filings
Clean up and reconcile asset listings
State & Local Compliance
Prepare and file personal property renditions and make required payments
Complete annual reports and maintain business licenses
File local and Multi State business tax returns and renewals
Oversee unclaimed property reporting and compliance
Financial Analysis & Internal Controls
Review tax-related general ledger accounts and reconcile discrepancies
Support the development and maintenance of internal tax controls and procedures
Collaborate with accounting team on tax-related reporting for audits and financial statements
Continuous Improvement
Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations
Document internal tax procedures and best practices
Identify tax planning opportunities and provide recommendations for optimization
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
3+ years of experience in corporate or public tax accounting
Strong understanding of corporate income tax, financial reporting, and tax compliance
Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
High level of integrity and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification or actively pursuing CPA
Master's degree in Accounting
Background in public accounting
