Overview This is a hands-on, Partner-track Venture Capital role identifying, investing in, and building tomorrow’s best
cloud infrastructure, security, AI, and data companies. As an Associate Investor at Venture Guides, you would take ownership across the full deal-sourcing investment lifecycle, including finding opportunities, initiating, and conducting due diligence. Supporting portfolio companies post-investment is where we further differentiate our value, and you will be a critical component of that ongoing, operating collaboration with each investment that you bring on with us. We believe great investors, like great companies, are built, not born. We're looking for self-starting team members who thrive at the intersection of domain curiosity and analytical precision. The ideal collaborative candidate thinks independently, is perpetually inquisitive, and applies insights to sharpen judgment and fuel our collective ability to achieve better outcomes. What You'll Be Doing Company-Focused Source early-stage investment opportunities that align with the Venture Guides investment thesis. Conduct rigorous primary research on prospective portfolio companies, including deep dives into their product strategy, customer base, and founding team. Build and maintain strong relationships with founders and systematically track deal flow and insights for full visibility across our internal VG investment team. Market-Focused Analyze and size the total addressable market (TAM) for potential investments. (Bottom-up or top-down, how, and and why?) Research emerging industry trends, evolving market dynamics, and the broader startup ecosystem. Evaluate competitive landscapes to understand a company’s positioning, differentiation, moats, and potential barriers to entry. Monitor influential sector experts and incumbent players to stay ahead of shifts in the market. Lead opportunity-by-opportunity product/market/team due diligence efforts to support Investment Committee decisions. Validate the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and conduct customer reference calls to assess product-market fit. Map and diagram the competitive landscape to evaluate differentiation, whitespace, and market risks. Prepare investment memos and contribute to data-informed Investment Committee presentations. Support portfolio companies post-investment with high-leverage initiatives, including customer introductions, go-to-market (GTM) diagnostics, and strategic partnership development. Serve as a trusted partner and primary point of contact for founders. Maintain visibility in the broader ecosystem by attending industry events and actively participating in relevant communities. Who you are SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE AN MBA or ITS EXPERIENTIAL EQUIVALENT, as well as DEAL/OPPORTUNITY ASSESSMENT/DUE DILIGENCE or COMPARABLE EXPERIENCE. You're fueled by a strong interest (and ideally solid experience) in researching, identifying, using, navigating, creating, or deploying cloud infrastructure, security, AI, or data applications. Experience in SaaS software is highly preferred. We’re interested in a wide range of individuals, backgrounds, and experiences. You don’t need a traditional venture capital resume, but you must be fueled by your strong analytics, strong curiosity and the desire to learn and meaningfully contribute. We value individuals who are perpetually inquisitive, move with intent, and push their thinking forward through hunger and humility for continuous improvement and ever-better outcomes. Candidates should have 3–5 years of full-time work experience and demonstrated impact in one or more of the following areas: Investment or strategic advisory roles: At least 3 years at a top-tier venture capital or private equity firm, investment bank, or in a product or strategy role at a high-growth startup. Operating or business development roles: At least 2 years in sales, strategy, partnerships, or corporate development, ideally within a startup or fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Graduate education: An MBA from a leading business school is welcomed, especially if paired with 3+ years of high-impact experience. Other high-expectation environments: Dynamic backgrounds that demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, resilience, and the ability to succeed in demanding, dynamic contexts, regardless of title or credential. A competitive advantage will be had by candidates who demonstrate utilization of current and best intelligence and data enrichment platforms, particularly Clay.com. Your strengths must include: Capacity for evaluating opportunities through three critical lenses: 1) founders, 2) products, and 3) markets Digging in on the 'why behind the why'; embracing the discomfort of rigorously exploring unfamiliar territory; ask sharp questions Design/build/executing ‘the basics+’ of financial and investment modeling that you’d expect in a top-tier banker/consultant/investor Compounding insights across conversations, teams, researched companies, investments, and markets into investment theses on what you believe would be high-value investments for Venture Guides How to Apply Please
