The Laboratory Manager is responsible for operational oversight, performing quality assurance duties, and serving as a team leader, scheduler, and primary trainer in the Laboratory. Will oversee a variety of routine moderate to high complexity experimental tests and leads in the development of new assays and techniques. Requires a professional level of knowledge to execute and analyze test results. Plan, direct, and coordinate daily operational activities of the Laboratory, assure quality and accuracy of testing as well as compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agencies. Direct the workflow in the lab, function as team leader; monitor turnaround times, and make adjustments in daily assignments; assist with schedules and station assignments; monitor staff punctuality and attendance; coach as well as provide input for counseling events and performance evaluations; recognize and resolve technical problems. Implement, maintain, and manage a lean work environment while ensuring adherence to lean principles and processes. Perform standard work of a Value Stream Manager including metric reviews, internal audits, and gemba walks. Collaborate on operational issues and future needs; ensure managers’ audit is complete; monitor performance of the processing lines (routine and referred testing), and work with the staff to improve processes; and assist with performance management of routine and complex procedures. Develop methodologies and manage projects in collaboration with others and develop processes/written procedures required for the implementation of new or modified testing and quality program essentials. Perform statistical analyses on data and write reports; develop and prepare reports on internal audits; and assist in troubleshooting analytical problems related to methodology. Perform or assist with the performance and documentation of QC procedures and monitor/submit reports. Assist with the review of daily/monthly QC and out-of-control records and take corrective action as needed. Perform and oversee screening lab proficiency testing for reporting to accreditation agencies. Assist with the evaluation and parallel testing of new QC material and cross check on new lot numbers of reagents. Perform and review statistical data and maintain and monitor systems for the daily input of values; maintain inventory levels; monitor reagent crossover checks; and expiration dates. Perform or supervise performance and documentation of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and calibration of instrumentation. Troubleshoot instrument problems, make minor repairs, and contact service companies. Monitor the performance and documentation of calibration and maintenance for the thermometers, centrifuges, balances, refrigerators, freezers, pipettes, eyewash stations, and electrical checks as required by regulatory agencies. Assist with the evaluation of new equipment and perform field tests for manufacturers. Participate in the training of other personnel. Assist with regulatory (CAP, CLIA, COLA, etc.) compliance and inspections. Ensure financial performance of department by providing input for operational and capital budget; short and long term planning; and appropriate allocation of labor and non-labor resources. In collaboration with clinical/technical consultants, develop section goals aligned with lab goals and objectives. Actively educate staff to ensure awareness of section, department, division, organization goals, and objectives. Ensure all matters associated with department staff position descriptions, performance standards, protocols, employee disputes, employee performance, hiring/firing, and scheduling are handled in a professional manner. Monitor the competency of assigned laboratory personnel and ensure personnel evaluations are performed in a timely manner and are an accurate assessment of the individual’s contributions to the organization’s overall success with appropriate documentation. Works collaboratively with QA/QC Manager and Compliance Manager to ensure constant inspection readiness. Responsible for direct supervision of all Laboratory personnel, including Lab Technologists, Lab Technicians, and Lab Assistants. Responsible for staff training, workload distribution and scheduling as well as any required disciplinary action. Qualifications

Blood/Hematology or Chemistry background Endocrinology experience preferred Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related life science. A Master degree is preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years’ laboratory experience with 3-5 years’ supervisory experience. A certification in one of the following is required: MT by ASCP, NCA, AMT; MLS by ASCP; CLS by NCA; MB, MP, BB, C, H, or M by ASCP; valid MT license from any state.
