REPORTS TO: Managing Prosecutor's Office

LOCATION: Nespelem, Washington

Basic Functions This is a non-exempt position responsible for representing the Tribes in criminal proceedings, MINOC proceedings, range impoundment hearings, natural resource enforcement hearings, and civil infractions before the Colville Tribal Court. The position includes representing the Tribes in the Healing to Wellness Court and appellate cases before the Colville Tribal Court of Appeals.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association and Colville Tribal Bar throughout employment.

Admitted to practice before all Washington State Courts and the U.S. District Court. Minimum of four years of attorney experience, preferably in criminal law, dependency, prosecution, or Indian Law.

Must obtain and maintain a license to practice law in Washington and pass the Colville Tribes Bar within 90 days of hire.

Valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Adherence to WSBA Rules of Professional Conduct.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of Federal Indian Law.

Understanding of cultural competence and ability to adapt to Tribal Court environment and Indian culture.

Knowledge of criminal and MINOC procedures.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document creation.

Knowledge of Colville Tribes Law and Order Code or willingness to learn.

Familiarity with office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to manage a large caseload and work under high stress.

High level of integrity and work ethic.

Ability to work with courts, law enforcement, legal offices, and the public.

Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.

Confidentiality and ability to work flexible hours.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Physical ability to perform duties, including sitting, standing, lifting, and operating office equipment.

Additional Notes Position may be safety sensitive and subject to drug testing. Tribal membership and Indian preference apply; preference for honorably discharged veterans. Must maintain valid driver’s license and background clearances.
