Position Summary Calibration Level 3 Technicians perform calibration and repair of high-level and unique test and measurement instrumentation. This role may require specialization and training in certain areas. The position may be a parallel career path to a lead technician. Collateral duties may be assigned as a permanent part of the position description depending on individual abilities. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Responsibilities
Adhere to all company policies and procedures
Ensure customer satisfaction and timely turnaround on all equipment and service
Perform calibration of high-level test and measurement equipment with little supervision in lab and at customer sites
Coordinate and lead teams for field calibration and maintenance
Seek and provide sales leads whenever possible
Create and verify calibration data sheets for technical content and accuracy based on instrument specifications and approved calibration procedures
Develop calibration procedures to meet customer needs while supporting traceability of measurements
Complete all documentation accurately and efficiently with a Quality Documentation Inspection (QDI) and Process Verification Inspection (PVI) discrepancy rate of 2.5% or less
Maintain technical proficiency through self-study, local college courses, internal training, and proficiency testing
Perform other laboratory support functions as required
Assist the Laboratory Manager in training technicians and educating customers as needed
Interface directly with customers to determine needs relating to traceability, adequacy of standards and test procedures, and items requiring repair or limited calibration
Assist Quality Assurance in developing uncertainty budgets
Ensure preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment is performed in a timely manner
Manage workload distribution for technicians when the Laboratory Manager is unavailable
Requirements
Two years of college with AA degree in metrology preferred
Minimum of four years of commercial or military experience in electronics with a background in metrology
Additional experience in primary and secondary calibration standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of metrology practices and theories, analog and digital circuit analysis
Experience with test and measurement equipment used in repair and calibration of electronic, mechanical, chemical, thermal and/or dimensional devices
Solid troubleshooting and repair capabilities; ability to work with limited product information
Proficient in Windows-based software and laboratory automation tools
Ability to apply basic statistical techniques for measurement uncertainty analysis
Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z-540-1 requirements
Strong communication skills; ability to mentor and train
Scissor lift operation experience preferred
Physical Demands
