Job Summary:
Responsible for preparing patients, assisting dentists with dental care and treatments, dismissing patients, sterilizing instruments, and maintaining dental treatment rooms.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Escorts patients into dental treatment rooms and prepares them for the dentist.
- Prepares instruments and additional supplies for the dental care and treatment to be provided.
- Assists the dentist by handling instruments and other supplies, suctioning, and irrigating, as directed by the dentist.
- Reassures patients as needed; assists with explanations and education as indicated.
- Dismisses patients when dental care and treatment are completed, assisting patients as needed.
- Cleans the patient area of the dental treatment room, removing instruments and supplies and ensuring that the room is ready for the next patient.
- Discards disposable supplies and instruments sterilizes non-disposable instruments, and performs autoclave testing.
- Participates in the quality assurance/risk management committee meetings, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school graduates, some colleges preferred
- Prior experience in a dental office or a health care setting
- Certificate in Dental Assisting from an accredited school highly preferred.
