Description
As a Food Service Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of students by overseeing all aspects of the school nutrition program. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations at an individual school or feeding site. Food Service Workers must ensure high standards for safety/sanitation and meal quality. In addition, they supervise site employees, place food/supply orders, account for meal service and a la carte sales and ensure adequate inventory is available. You will be responsible for receiving and managing food preparation and service, maintaining food safety standards, and promoting healthy eating habits among students. This position requires a passion for nutrition, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff, students, and parents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Proper food handling and inspection upon receiving food deliveries; stock food and take inventory and temperature of food upon arrival and prior to serving; assist in the storage and rotation of food. Assists Food Service Director in ordering the correct quantity of foods; check deliveries for invoice accuracy and report shortages. Monitor and report receipt of items of unacceptable quality or condition by following policies. Assists in set-up for meal service by placing food in steam tables, hot carts, serving tables; set up tables, trays, paper products, sanitizer and monitors to ensure cleanliness and stocked items throughout the serving period. Support in serving meals or supplemental menu items, answer inquiries pertaining to food and meal items and provide excellent customer service. Maintain food service and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition. Clean and sanitize work areas, tables, serving counters, microwaves, chairs and food containers; sweep and mop floors in food service areas to assure a safe and sanitary work environment; carry out bags of garbage and place them in designated areas. May also assist with wiping and washing tables, chairs, or benches in the cafeteria and gym. Operates POS system accurately and efficiently; responds to emails in a timely manner Actively monitor students to ensure they select appropriate menu choices for reimbursable meals during all services. Follow established health, safety and sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance. Completes and maintains daily food production forms, inventory forms, temperature logs, and other simple reports. Attends required in-service training, meetings, and workshops as assigned. Communicate with the Food Service Director and vendors to exchange information, coordinate deliveries and resolve issues or concerns. Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations and guidelines related to school nutrition programs. Perform related duties as assigned. Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or the possession of a G.E.D. certificate Some experience in food preparation, kitchen maintenance, or a related field Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid ServSafe certificate is required Employees must participate in provided training and complete required continuing education/training hours in order to meet USDA professional standards. Part-Time Staff Minimum: 6 hours
Knowledge of:
Basic food service procedures, utensils and equipment Sanitation and safety measures in food service areas General clerical procedures using office equipment including POS system, computer and calculator. Basic mathematics Oral and written communication skills Basic record keeping Interpersonal skills using professionalism, patience and courtesy. Ability to:
Provide timely service of foods for students and staff at an assigned school site. Assist in maintaining food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition. Learn and uphold procedures for preparing and serving food in large quantities. Learn and effectively apply proper sanitation and safety requirements. Learn and uphold sanitation practices related to the handling and serving of food. Communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing. Work cooperatively with others. Operate kitchen equipment. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality Perform routine arithmetical calculations and make changes accurately.
