About the Role: Apprentice Teacher

The Apprentice Teacher position is a unique opportunity for passionate individuals looking to explore the field of education. Whether you have limited or no teaching experience, this role offers hands-on practice and training to help you become a successful full-time classroom teacher.

As an Apprentice Teacher, you will:

  • Observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers and school leaders.
  • Co-teach with teacher-leaders and provide in-house substitute teaching coverage.
  • Support teachers with tutoring, grading, and small group instruction.
  • Potentially teach your own class, gaining direct teaching experience.
  • Assist with various tasks inside and outside the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes and organizing student events.

Through full participation in professional development and regular meetings with an instructional coach, you will gain the experience and support necessary to develop your teaching skills. By the end of the year, you will be a strong candidate for full-time teaching positions!

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders.
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed.
  • Plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility.
  • Support students through one-on-one and small group tutoring.
  • Observe Master Teachers to enhance your instructional techniques.
  • Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback.
  • Assist with classroom responsibilities, including assessments and grading.
Qualifications
  • A drive to improve the minds and lives of students.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and responsible.
  • Hard-working, energetic, and adaptable.
  • Reflective and eager to improve.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Interest in a critical support role in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in schools or urban communities is a plus, but not required.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required by the start of employment.
