About the Role: Apprentice TeacherThe Apprentice Teacher position is a unique opportunity for passionate individuals eager to explore the field of education. Whether you have limited or no teaching experience, this role will provide you with hands-on practice and the training necessary to become a successful full-time classroom teacher.
As an Apprentice Teacher, you will:
- Observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers and school leaders.
- Co-teach with teacher-leaders and provide in-house substitute teaching coverage.
- Support teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group instruction.
- Potentially teach your own class, gaining direct teaching experience.
- Assist with various tasks inside and outside the classroom, including teaching Enrichment classes and organizing student events.
Through full participation in professional development and regular meetings with an instructional coach, you will gain invaluable experience and support to develop your teaching skills. By the end of the year, you will be a strong candidate for full-time teaching positions!
Specific Responsibilities- Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders.
- Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed.
- Plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility.
- Support students through one-on-one and small group tutoring.
- Observe Master Teachers to enhance your instructional techniques.
- Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback.
- Assist with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
- A drive to improve the minds and lives of students.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and possess a strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Hard-working, energetic, and adaptable.
- Reflective and eager to improve.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Interest in a critical support role in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in schools or urban communities is a plus, but not required.
- A Bachelor's degree is required by the start of employment.
