Position Summary
The Human Resources Manager oversees the day-to-day HR operations within the Augusta Home. This role reports directly to the Home Administrator and works in close collaboration with the Central Office Human Resources team. The HR Generalist partners with leadership and employees to guide employee relations, performance management, and development, while ensuring consistent implementation of organizational policies and practices across Maine Veterans’ Homes (MVH).
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite HR contact, supporting employees and managers on HR-related matters.
- Work with leadership to address employee relations issues, performance concerns, and employee development.
- Support the performance management process, providing coaching and guidance to leaders and employees.
- Collaborate with Central Office HR to enroll and educate employees on benefit plans and programs.
- Partner with the Central Office Recruitment team to attract, recruit, and hire qualified talent.
- Administer and track workers’ compensation claims and participate in the Home’s safety committee.
- Manage employee leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, personal leaves), ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Ensure all HRIS transactions (new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, status changes, etc.) are processed timely and accurately.
- Maintain personnel files and records in compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
- Support employee engagement and recognition initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture.
- Assist with audits, reporting, and compliance requirements as needed.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent
experience considered.
· 3+ years progressive HR experience required; prior long-term care, healthcare, or human services
experience preferred.
· Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, and best practices.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Shift: Monday-Friday, day shift with occasional evening and weekends.
