About the Role: Apprentice TeacherThe Apprentice Teacher position is a fantastic opportunity for passionate individuals looking to explore the field of education. Whether you have limited or no teaching experience, this role will equip you with hands-on practice and essential training to become a successful full-time classroom teacher.
As an Apprentice Teacher, you will:
- Observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced educators.
- Co-teach with teacher-leaders and provide in-house substitute coverage.
- Support teachers with tutoring, grading, and small group instruction.
- Potentially teach your own class, gaining invaluable direct teaching experience.
- Engage in various activities, including teaching Enrichment classes and organizing student events.
Through full participation in professional development and regular meetings with an instructional coach, you will gain the skills and support needed to thrive in the classroom. By the end of the year, you will be a strong candidate for a full-time teaching position!
Key Responsibilities- Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders.
- Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed.
- Plan and deliver instruction, gradually increasing your responsibilities.
- Support students through one-on-one and small group tutoring.
- Observe Master Teachers to enhance your instructional techniques.
- Assist with classroom responsibilities, including assessments and grading.
- A passion for improving the lives of students both in and out of the classroom.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and responsible.
- Hard-working, energetic, and adaptable.
- Reflective and eager to improve continuously.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Prior experience in schools or urban communities is a plus, but not required.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required by the start of employment.
As an Apprentice Teacher, you will be immersed in a dynamic and supportive environment where you can grow and develop your teaching skills. You will participate in an annual three-week staff orientation and training, ensuring you are well-prepared for your role.
