Overview

Position: Senior Accountant. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day finance and complex accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. This includes accounts receivable and payable, contributions, approximately $30 million in grants, $80 million for fundraising, and $5 million in licensing and royalties revenues. The role ensures timely reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial statements and donor reports. The Sr. Accountant, at their discretion, prepares periodic financial analyses for organizational leadership and key stakeholders and maintains fiscal records. The Senior Accountant also leads the annual audits by coordinating with external auditors and preparing information requested by the auditors.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day finance and complex accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations. • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable, contributions, grants, fundraising revenues, licensing and royalties. • Reconcile accounts in a timely manner and prepare financial statements and donor reports. • Prepare periodic financial analyses for leadership and stakeholders; maintain fiscal records. • Facilitate annual audits by working closely with external auditors, including preparation and provision of information requested by auditors.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in financial accounting in nonprofit organizations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and compliance reporting for 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced skills in spreadsheet software like Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience using QuickBooks Online for business.
  • Experience working with external auditors and leading to a successful independent audit.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of payroll processing and benefits administration with a PEO (outsourced payroll and benefits administration).
  • Ability to support various departments and foster teamwork.
  • Understanding of revenue and expense allocations and ability to track allocations against budgets.
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookup tables).
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other departments and management.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $90,563 – $124,200
  • Hiring Range: $92,000 – $100,000
  • 4 weeks vacation, full benefits, 12 holidays, Winter Break
