Software Development Manager

Amazon Worldwide Grocery Tech is seeking an exceptional Software Development Manager to lead our Edge ML Inference Systems team. This team is responsible for designing, developing, and operating high-performance machine learning inference systems that power real-time computer vision and AI applications across our grocery store locations. Our solutions run on edge devices and enable crucial in-store experiences, from computer vision-based inventory management to smart checkout systems. Key job responsibilities include: Leading a team of engineers developing high-performance ML inference systems for edge devices. Driving architectural decisions for deploying and managing ML models across distributed edge locations. Establishing performance benchmarks and optimization strategies for ML inference. Collaborating with AI/ML teams to enable efficient deployment of new models to production. Defining and implementing strategies for model compression, quantization, and optimization. Developing systems for remote monitoring, updating, and management of edge ML infrastructure. Partnering with hardware teams to optimize ML workloads for specific edge computing platforms. Ensuring high availability and reliability of inference systems in production environments. Basic Qualifications: 3+ years of engineering team management experience. 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience. 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience. 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
