Full Stack Software Engineer - Top Secret Clearance Hawthorne, CA SpaceX develops technologies to enable human life on Mars. This role involves designing, developing, and testing components of an in-house solution for analysis, simulation, and prototyping of software supporting SpaceX flight systems. You will own new features in a scalable, high-performance web application and contribute to core simulation and emulation infrastructure, collaborating on models of fluids, electronics, and multi-body physics systems. This is a high-impact role that requires working across engineering groups to build a high-throughput distributed system and apply software best practices. Our simulation software is critical to mission success and presents challenging, innovative problems. Responsibilities Develop full-stack solutions to manage analysis, prototypes, and vehicles leveraging simulation software, emulators, and flight software Develop prototypes to prove key design concepts and quantify technical constraints Develop high-fidelity simulation and emulation software for all vehicles while maintaining high standards of excellence Improve reliability and performance of simulation software Work with users to develop new features and improve user experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline and 1+ years of software development experience; OR 3+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree 1+ years of professional experience in full-stack development of production web applications

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance OR ability and willingness to obtain a Top Secret clearance Professional programming experience in modern C++ (C++14+) Professional programming experience with Java, Python, or C# Strong software design and development skills Experience with highly available concurrent systems Ability to obtain and maintain clearance Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments and communicate well Experience with containerized solutions such as Docker and Kubernetes Experience with Linux/Unix systems and tools Experience with high-performance computing systems Experience with database systems such as Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle Experience on large software projects (>100,000 lines) Strong debugging, performance optimization, and test automation skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Active clearance may allow work on sensitive SpaceX missions; pre-employment and ongoing drug testing may apply Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Pay range: Software Engineer/Level I: $120,000 - $145,000 per year Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000 - $170,000 per year Your base salary is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary with knowledge, education, and experience. An active clearance may provide a 10% differential, up to an additional $15,000 annually, once briefed into a classified program. Base salary is part of SpaceX total rewards, which may include stock, bonuses, 401(k), benefits, and paid time off. Exempt employees accrue paid sick leave and other holidays.
