Restaurant Manager Location: Virtue Restaurant, Chicago Reports To: General Manager and the Director of operations Virtue Restaurant, located in the heart of Chicago, is dedicated to providing guests with exceptional Southern-inspired cuisine and warm hospitality. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic Restaurant Manager to help lead our team, shape our culture, and ensure operational excellence. Position Summary
The Restaurant Manager is responsible for the overall operation of Virtue Restaurant, with a focus on leadership, staff development, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. This role requires strong team management, operational oversight, and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences. Success in this position requires a deep sense of personal integrity, accountability, and trustworthiness, along with a passion for hospitality and community. Responsibilities
Hire, train, and retain a high-performing team of managers and hourly staff. Provide continuous coaching and feedback to develop staff in line with Virtues culture and standards. Conduct regular employee performance reviews with honesty, trust, and transparency. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and positive work environment based on mutual trust and accountability. Identify and mentor employees for growth and advancement opportunities. Lead regular management meetings and ensure clear, consistent communication throughout the team. Oversee daily restaurant operations to ensure smooth service and exceptional guest experiences. Monitor and maintain restaurant atmosphere, including lighting, music, cleanliness, and overall ambiance. Conduct pre-shift walk-throughs and line checks to assess readiness. Manage inventory, ordering, and equipment maintenance in collaboration with kitchen and bar teams. Ensure adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards as required by law and company policy. Maintain proficiency in all front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) positions to support service as needed. Oversee limited financial aspects of the restaurant, including labor and cost control, inventory, and limited cash handling responsibilities. Authorize comps and voids, track high-cost items, and assist with maintaining balanced cash banks as needed. Collaborate on annual marketing plans and promotions to drive sales and business growth. Partner with catering and special events teams to support revenue opportunities in alignment with overall business goals. Demonstrate responsibility and integrity in all limited cash management duties. Lead by example in delivering warm, gracious, and attentive hospitality. Address guest concerns promptly, courteously, and professionally. Build relationships with regular guests and foster a welcoming, community-oriented environment. Model personal accountability and care in all guest interactions. Possess working knowledge of cocktails, beer, and wine to assist bar operations when necessary. Support bar staff in maintaining beverage standards and ensuring accurate, high-quality service. Qualifications
2-3 years of restaurant management or supervisory experience. Proficiency in front-of-house roles (serving, hosting, bussing, food running, basic bartending). Strong leadership, mentorship, and team development skills. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to remain composed in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
