Nursing Assistant Position
The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Assistant to perform routine sub-professional nursing duties in the care and comfort of our Veteran patients. Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience or training in patient care; OR possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate; OR completion of an accredited Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician Program. NOTE: Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. Job Specification

Job Duties: As a Nursing Assistant, you will measure temperatures, pulses, respirations, blood pressures, heights/weights, and record in patients' medical records. In this role, you will also: Assist with documenting admission of new patients in medical records. Provide care to patients such as ambulating, feeding, bathing, positioning, and lifting. May sterilize equipment and supplies. Distribute clean linen, wash, dry, sort, fold, and store patients' clothing. Collect, label and transport laboratory specimens as assigned. Collect and file diagnostic test results. Observe patients' conditions and report any changes to the charge nurse. Transport patients to examinations, clinics, or recreational sites. May be required to provide care to patients with infectious diseases. Clean rooms and change bed linens. Perform procedures such as enemas and skin care as directed by a professional nurse. Successfully complete training programs such as CPR, First Aid, infection control, infectious disease, and/or programs that maintain hospital standards such as quality control, safety issues, and JCAHO requirements. Position-Specific Details: Location: Nursing Department of the Northeast LA Veterans Home in Monroe, Louisiana. Appointment Type: Probational or Job Appointment Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Nursing Assistant 1 or 2 (CNA 1 or 2) Work Schedule: Day Shift (6:45a-7:15p) Night Shift (6:45p-7:15a) Work may involve shift work. Compensation: The Special Entrance Rate for this position is as follows, plus premium pay, and shift differentials (SEE BELOW): Nursing Assistant 1 is $13.74 Nursing Assistant 2 is $14.70 PREMIUM PAY (per HOUR physically worked): $3.00 work incentive pay upon hire.
