Supporting a fully deaf kindergarten student with cochlear implants, this Educational Interpreter (ASL) position offers a meaningful opportunity to facilitate communication and learning for a young learner entering elementary school. The role involves 1:1 interpretation for a student who has had some early intervention experience with sign language and now requires skilled support in an elementary setting.

Located in Bellefonte, PA, approximately 20 minutes from Penn State and about an hour from Harrisburg, this position is fully onsite within an elementary school environment. The contract spans the full school year, providing continuity and a chance to build strong connections with the student and staff. Additionally, a second interpreter on site supports a 2nd-grade student, offering an opportunity for collaboration and mentoring. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 ASL interpreting services for a kindergarten student who is fully deaf with cochlear implants. Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers. Collaborate with onsite interpreter and school staff to ensure inclusive learning. Adapt communication strategies to meet the evolving needs of the student. Participate in team meetings and contribute insights based on interpreter experience. Qualifications: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at an educational interpreting level. Experience working with elementary-aged children, ideally in grades K-5. Understanding of deaf education and cochlear implant technology. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a school setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
