Summary: Under the direction of the Urgent Care Practice Manager and indirectly under the direction of the TMH Manager Medical Imaging, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Performs clerical duties as well as EKG and phlebotomy functions. All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients and adapt care to their physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. Fosters patient and family centered care in accordance with Brown University Health and BHMGs mission, vision, and values, as well as cultural patterns. Responsibilities Follows Urgent Care Centers workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency; works effectively at highest capabilities and training. Protects and preserves patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with Brown University Health policies. Greets, answers questions, and provides understandable explanations of radiologic examinations, EKGs, and phlebotomy tests to patients to reduce apprehension; ensures safety and comfort of all patients. Answers phones and performs registration and checkout duties per policies. Rooms patients; ensures exam room is cleaned between patients and set up according to policy. Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner, ensuring efficient patient flow; places orders and tracks exams with accuracy and promptness. Performs required patient identification procedures on all patients presenting for radiologic exams. Performs radiographic exams with understanding of equipment, positioning, physiology, and technical factors to produce optimum results. Transfers images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review. Scans documents into applicable systems for archiving and retrieval. Follows software protocols (e.g., Lifechart, PACS) and understands downtime processes. Performs quality control procedures and reports unit issues to Manager Medical Imaging. Places EKG leads, records tracings, and ensures tracings are properly labeled and part of the patients medical record. Maintains orderliness, cleanliness, and adequate supplies for the assigned area. Provides coverage for the department as required, including weekends and holidays; demonstrates flexibility with shifts and locations. Participates in training and instruction of new Urgent Care Radiology Techs. Maintains quality assurance, safety regulations, environmental and infection control per hospital/department policies and objectives. Manages time effectively; fills slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs; minimizes non-productive time. Attire and personal appearance conform to departmental guidelines and standards. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.
Basic Knowledge
Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent. Current license to work in the State of Rhode Island; ARRT certification. Basic life support certification. Knowledge to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of care.
Experience
One-year experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff; demonstrate empathy toward all patients.
Work Environment And Physical Requirements
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Hazards minimized by adherence to safety procedures and protective equipment. Walks and stands intermittently; may lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
