Overview

Client provides for the sustained, efficient, and effective delivery of IT services, infrastructure, and telecommunications to enhance service delivery to New York City's residents, businesses, employees, and visitors. As the City's technology leader, Client maintains the foundational IT infrastructure and systems that touch every aspect of City life including public safety, human services, education, and economic development across governmental operations. The successful candidate will serve as a Wireless Systems Engineer reporting to the infrastructure division. This position supports the operation of ongoing security infrastructure requirements, including configuration, evolution, and upgrades. The Wireless Systems Engineer will lead projects and initiatives and contribute to the technical design and upgrade of OTIs SD-WAN system. The role offers the opportunity to work across teams and contribute to wireless technologies and security offerings while leading the charge for wireless solutions across NYC, involving critical thinking and problem solving in concert with industry-standard best practices. Responsibilities

Implement routing and security protocols and related technologies, including but not limited to EIGRP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SSH, TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SIEM, L2/L3 switching, 802.1Q, VLANs, QoS, ACLs, VxLAN, SIP, RTP. Deploy and manage security products such as firewalls, IPSec, IDS/IPS, anti-spam, antivirus, RADIUS, PKI, IKE, certificates, L2TP, SSH, SSL, and related cryptographic and authentication mechanisms. Perform day-to-day network operations including routing, switching, VPN, LAN/WAN management, network security, intrusion detection, antivirus, change management, and issue resolution. Utilize network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (sniffer, syslog, NetFlow, TCPDUMP, Wireshark) for network management and diagnostics. Configure and operate Fortinet firewalls, F5 and AVI load balancers, SD-WAN architectures, and WAN automation technologies. Work with Cisco CLI and support cross-platform environments (Windows, macOS, Linux). Collaborate with network engineering teams to ensure efficient network operations and contribute to troubleshooting beyond normal work hours when required. Document networks, network systems, MOPs, and other operational materials; conduct network and security assessments to troubleshoot and optimize performance; design, test, evaluate, and implement new architectures and technologies. Mandatory Skills/Experience

Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered At least 12 years of experience in an IT network engineering or architect role Strong understanding of Fortinet Firewalls architecture with hands-on experience Experience with complex routing and switching environments Experience with virtualization technologies Ability to work independently Experience in implementing network patches Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Desirable Skills/Experience

Position is client-facing; strong customer support and interpersonal skills desirable Cisco WLAN and ISE experience Understanding of remote access technologies including Citrix, IPsec VPN Working knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management) Active CCNP certification (Security/Route/Switch) preferred Seniority level
