The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation currently has a position open for a Manager, Accounting on the Finance and Accounting Team, based in Austin, Texas. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Accounting, this person team will play a critical role in the growth of the Foundation, providing strong accounting governance and key finance acumen.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparation of financial records and reports with high integrity in compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements for a private foundation, documentation and monitoring of internal controls, and review of data integrity within the grant operations and financial systems.
- Financial Processes and Procedures: Prepare and execute monthly accounting close processes for the general ledger and the grant management system sub-ledger; Balance sheet reconciliations and application of appropriate accounting standards for endowment and foundation investments, and lease and grant liabilities; Accounting support of the annual audit and the filing of federal and state tax returns
- Accounting policies & positions: Regularly review accounting policies and make updates to policy documentation as appropriate. As needed, research, conclude and memorialize technical accounting position papers.
- Internal Controls: Document and monitor internal control system within the Foundation. Ensure adherence to internal policies and audit requirements.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness. Quarterly reporting and analyses of the Foundation’s financial and operational performance with key insights into performance vs plan/forecast
- Special Projects: Ownership of projects as needed that drive efficiency of business and accounting processes, data integrity, and the overall effectiveness for the Foundation.
A strong accounting background with proven financial and business competencies, proficient in problem solving and dealing with ambiguity. Team-orientated with a bias to action, efficient process transformation mindset, and comfortable communicating to senior management. Responsive to information requests applying strong technical accounting skills and financial acumen, highly organized and detail oriented. Excellent business software skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, reporting tools (such as Tableau) and financial ERP experience (such as NetSuite, Oracle or SAP).
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or its equivalent required
- Certified Public Accountant and/or public accounting experience in tax or audit is preferred
- Operational accounting experience within a dynamic organization
