Myeloma Link - Help Connect African-American Populations with Resources Job at L

African Americans have twice the incidence of multiple myeloma as white Americans. Recent studies show that African Americans are significantly less likely to receive the newest treatments and combination therapies, and more likely to experience treatment delays, including transplant delays. Myeloma Link is an initiative from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that seeks to raise awareness among African Americans about incidence and treatment of this type of blood cancer and provide information, support resources and access to care.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is looking for volunteers to help provide community outreach to the Black community in and around Cleveland about Multiple Myeloma. The Myeloma Link Ambassador Program is an opportunity for community members, survivors, and caregivers to support Myeloma Link by becoming actively involved. Your involvement will be instrumental to ensure our efforts to provide education and raise awareness in the community around Multiple Myeloma are effective, significant and long-lasting.

WE NEED YOU!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is partnering with a wide range of trusted partners within African American communities, including churches, senior centers and community health centers, in order to:

1) Raise awareness among African Americans about the disparities in multiple myeloma incidence and treatment, the signs and symptoms of the disease, and the resources that LLS offers to patients and families dealing with blood cancer.

2) Provide information and resources that will equip African American myeloma patients with the knowledge and tools needed to seek novel, state-of-the-art treatments, including clinical trials, in a timely manner.

What is the role of a Myeloma Link Ambassador?

• To connect LLS to churches, institutions and other community-based organizations that serve the African American community.
• To coordinate and support outreach events such as Myeloma Sundays, Myeloma Awareness Programs and other Myeloma Link educational activities as appropriate.
• To seek out and attend health fairs and other community events on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Myeloma Link initiative
• To help LLS follow-up with prospects and education program participants.

All prospective volunteers will receive Myeloma Link training, resources and guidance throughout their volunteer experience.
