Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in tourism, public relations, business administration, hotel/restaurant management, marketing, journalism, or related fields, along with at least one year of experience in a tourist development setting. Applicants within six months of meeting these requirements may be considered for trainee status. A valid Florida Driver License is required, with a Motor Vehicle Record meeting Alachua County policy #6-7 standards. Records showing more than three moving traffic infractions or at-fault accidents within the past 24 months may disqualify applicants. Successful completion of background checks is mandatory. This position involves coordinating tourist development activities to generate leads for group travel, conferences, events, and individual tourism, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards. This is an emergency essential classification. Employees are required to work during declared disasters or emergencies. Key duties include: Customer service excellence Building organizational culture based on core values Program planning, reporting, and policy development Coordination with federal, state, and local agencies Managing digital marketing efforts, including website and social media Conducting sales activities such as direct mail, telemarketing, and trade shows Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include: Understanding of tourist development practices and regulations Marketing and communication expertise Proficiency in computer operations and software Effective oral and written communication skills Work organization and time management skills The physical demands include sitting, talking, hearing, occasional reaching, and mobility, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. The work environment is typically moderate noise.
