General Summary

The Assistant Buyer primarily supports the operational duties of the broader South Moon Under buying team while maintaining category ownership for single or multiple merchandise categories. This individual is responsible for assisting the buyer in all phases of the buying process. They will support seasonal hindsight and strategy plans, budget management, trend and market research, communication to internal and external partners, in season assortment management and tracking. They own administrative, analytical, creative, and communicative responsibilities. Multitasking and high attention to detail is critical in this position. Within the buying department this individual plays an instrumental role in sales and inventory management. The key focus is to partner with the buyer to exceed sales and gross margin plans.

Responsibilities

Own purchase order set-up, entry, and confirmation on behalf of the buying team Ensure timely tracking of orders to support flow of inventory and accuracy of open-to-buy Serve as the category lead for a single or multiple merchandise category with oversight and support from buyers Maintain high level of organization - vendor contacts, discounts and terms, processes and procedures of administrative tasks Support direct to store shipment initiatives, EDI, and vendor image coordination Cross-coordinate with various departmental teams (Buying, Planning/Allocation, Marketing/Ecommerce, Finance) to maximize business opportunities and efficiencies Establish and maintain external relationships by owning communication and outreach across vendors Perform ad hoc analysis for buying team and executives to support decision making Filtering high level, top-line selling takeaways with action plan Provide sales recaps and analysis on a weekly, monthly, quarterly level to foster business decisions Support private label initiatives and developments in designated categories

Product Duties

Financial Duties

Support Buyer in achieving IMU, GM%, WOS, and sales goals for assigned categories. Partner with buyer and planner to adhere to annual, seasonal, monthly, and weekly financial plans; Ensuring accuracy in assortment entry and receipt management Analyze weekly and monthly sales, inventory, and receipt plans to drive sales and minimize markdowns. Communicate a point-of-view on product supported by facts and data. Provide factual analysis on trends and recommendations to drive immediate assortment strategies.

Leadership Duties

Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external sources. Collaborate with store teams to refine knowledge of customer needs and to ensure stores are informed on product attributes, highlights, and outfitting strategies to build outfits for SMU customers. Work with cross functional team members to ensure that the original vision /intent for product is executed across marketing and visual merchandising initiatives. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Job Required Knowledge, Skills and Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising or a related field. 1 year of experience in retail industry or business analysis preferred Ability to understand customer demographic and to identify appropriate product that will appeal to the customer. Analytic Skills : Ability to think objectively and interpret meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative data. Financial and Business Acumen : Ability to evaluate financial and business indicators and translate data into actionable information to drive results. Problem Solving & Decision Quality : Able to use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions Relationship Management : Able to build constructive and effective relationships with a broad and diverse group of business partners, both internally & externally. Presentation Skills : Effective in a variety of presentation settings including one-on-one, small and large groups, and with peers and Executives Systems and Tools Acumen : Microsoft Excel, Proficiency in Microsoft Access, PowerPoint and Word. Must also have aptitude to learn other technical applications quickly. Coachability : Ability to embrace constructive feedback with an open mind. Willingness and eagerness to learn, question norms, and continuously improve. Risk Management : Anticipate risks and identifies contingency plans and processes to prevent disruptions when risks occur.
