Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Technicians are factory trained on major UPS manufacturers and perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency service calls at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities. The group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions of M.C. Dean.
Responsibilities
- Daily travel with independent work structure
- Emergency call availability 24/7 unless on PTO or Off Call
- Maintain safeguard for company issued equipment, tools, and instruments
- Installation and repair of static switch and PDU systems
- Perform required preventative maintenance on equipment under contract as scheduled
- Customer contact and interface
- Communicate availability status to corporate office
- Communicate availability status to Team Lead or manager
- Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records
- Use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary
- Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors hired by M.C. Dean as necessary
- Maintain company or personal vehicle in safe and operational condition; maintain insurance as required by company
- Ensure work is performed to M.C. Dean standards
- Complete all paperwork (Field Service Reports, Time Sheets, Expense Reports) timely and accurately
- Provide technical support to customers upon request
- Maintain technical documentation for study and/or review
- Attend product-specific training as deemed necessary
- Cross-train others as needed
Other Duties
- Inspect static swath systems associated with power backup systems and related controls; perform inspections, maintenance checks, failure analysis, and repairs
- Certify by signature that systems and components adhere to quality standards
- Review and verify system drawings and specifications; determine maintenance and inspection requirements; resolve discrepancies
- Provide technical assistance and expertise to owners and engineers; perform inspections and training as needed
- Advise site personnel on maintenance practices and document findings
- Maintain operational instruments (Digital Multimeter, Micro Ohm-meter, Insulation Test Equipment, Battery Test Equipment)
- On-call availability 24/7; may require overnight travel at company expense
- Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Controls
- Work is performed under general supervision of Regional Managers and Team Leads
- Role includes autonomy within policies and schedules; completed work reviewed for policy adherence and overall effectiveness
- The primary purpose is inspection and certification of power electronics and their key components to improve reliability, availability, and quality of power
Qualifications
- AA/BS degree in Electrical and/or Electronics from an accredited college or university, or equivalent field/military training
- 5+ years of experience with UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and related electrical apparatus (switchgear, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATSs, generators)
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematic diagrams
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, maintenance practices, and quality control procedures
- Ability to diagnose malfunctions and apply testing/inspection techniques
- Proficiency with laptop and software tools; strong written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to complete manufacturer maintenance courses as needed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
