Manager, Starship Supply Chain Engineering (Gasifier & Crew Starship) — Hawthorne, CA SpaceX was founded with the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. The Manager for Starship Supply Chain will oversee a team of Supply Chain professionals including Sourcing managers and Supply Chain Engineers. This team handles strategic sourcing, vendor management, part supply and quality/reliability for Starship production areas. The team monitors and reports consumption, inventory, incoming purchase orders, MRP messages, and targets on a weekly, monthly, and yearly cadence. This dynamic role requires proactive development of strategic action plans for key departmental deliverables while managing inventory levels, identifying risks, and clearly communicating program Supply Chain health to key stakeholders. The candidate will develop and lead complex, multi-disciplinary teams and projects to ensure a healthy and reliable Supply Chain for Starship Gasifier and Crew, and to enable Starship supply chain operations to scale with excellence. The role requires defining high-level goals aligned with cross-functional leadership. Responsibilities
Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Work with other supply chain verticals, engineering leadership, and production management to identify inventory health risks, critical path parts, and strategic risk mitigation opportunities Collaborate with production and engineering leadership to drive alignment on master scheduling, milestones, takt targets, block changes, and critical timelines Define strategic/tactical goals and lead initiatives to meet production and engineering stakeholder expectations Lead strategic sourcing and supply chain engineering teams to align cost, quality, and delivery goals Develop standards and expectations to ensure at-rate delivery from suppliers Ensure end-to-end delivery from supplier facility to specified production area Own change management on behalf of supply chain and ensure on-time introduction at rate Identify opportunities for insourcing or outsourcing part manufacturing to support rate (drive, make, and buy) Drive Execution: Motivate the team to meet deliverables, develop reporting procedures and systems (e.g., status dashboards), and implement process, system, or training improvements Track and review KPI’s with the team and adjust initiatives to drive progress Develop and champion cross-functional cost reduction efforts Resolve issues autonomously in creative ways Maintain healthy inventory levels, purchase order integrity, scheduled deliveries, and timely communications Build and Manage An Awesome Team: Represent the team to ensure alignment with Starship program priorities, develop a world-class team through 1:1s and personal development plans, interview and hire for Supply Chain roles, develop succession plans, and embody core values of transparency, accountability, and ownership Basic Qualifications
Advanced degree with 4+ years of experience in purchasing, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management, or material cost control; or a bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience in one or more of these areas; or 10+ years of related experience 1+ year of experience leading a team with direct reports Preferred Skills
5+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, technical procurement or supply chain management Strong technical understanding of MRP systems Experience with BOM management within TeamCenter Experience sourcing and managing medium-complexity machined components Collaborative team player with attention to detail and strong verbal, written, and presentation skills Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills with a bias for speed without sacrificing quality Ability to build relationships across disciplines Ability to work independently or collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, loosely-structured environment Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, macros) and data analysis Experience with SQL and Power BI Conducts all activities with the highest integrity Additional Requirements
Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed Ability to travel up to 20% Compensation and Benefits
Pay range: Manager: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Base salary is part of the total rewards package, which may include stock, bonuses, and the ability to purchase additional stock via the Employee Stock Purchase Plan, plus comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) plan, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, and other perks. Vacation and holidays are provided (3 weeks vacation, 10+ paid holidays per year; exempt employees receive 5 sick days per year).
