Summary The Functional Capabilities Technician shall conduct basic and applied proteomic and metabolomic research on current and emerging threats at BSL-2, in support of the BD and infectious disease countermeasure mission. The Contractor shall provide expertise in a range of sample preparation techniques, method development, operation of proteomic and metabolomic instrumentation, and analysis of large datasets.

Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:

Perform sample preparation on various matrices including inactivated cells, tissues, viral particles, biofluids, etc., involving purification, homogenization, dialysis, buffer exchanges, and other techniques.

Develop and perform LC-MS methods for detection and characterization of proteins, peptides, metabolites, or small molecules. Conduct SDS-PAGE experiments for protein and nucleic acid assessment.

Develop and execute data analysis workflows for identifying and quantifying peptides, proteins, and small molecules, including post-translational modifications and statistical comparisons.

Maintain research methods, SOPs, and data records promptly. Keep an inventory database of all samples received.

Participate in weekly lab meetings, assist in research design, and prepare technical reports, SOPs, and manuscripts. May present posters at scientific conferences outside regular hours.

Maintain an orderly lab environment, conduct biannual equipment inventory, monthly safety and supplies management, and coordinate supply orders. Assist in training new personnel.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

Specialized skills such as aerobiology, clinical pathology, microscopy, histopathology, QA, and good laboratory practices may be required.

Ability to independently understand and execute techniques and procedures meeting quality and research standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of related experience or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.

Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information.

Enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACTIVE SECRET clearance preferred.

Ph.D. strongly preferred.

Pay And Benefits The salary range is $80,000 to $90,000 annually.
