Key Responsibilities
- Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart a specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.
- Shovel or pour specified grade abrasives into the machine hopper.
- Operate, understand, and troubleshoot blasting tools and equipment.
- Regulate air pressure and abrasive mixture composition flowing through the nozzle.
- Direct blast or flow of abrasive mixture over surfaces as specified.
- Mask specified areas to protect from blasting.
- Examine and measure finished product to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Relocate and prepare units for the next operation in accordance with company procedures.
- Clean, perform maintenance, and repair company-owned tools and equipment.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly working environment; comply with safety and PPE requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in meetings as required.
- Continue to improve processes to increase efficiency in the job function.
- Perform duties safely and promote safety in accordance with Newterra’s policies; report safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, near-misses, and incidents.
- Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
- Accurately complete documents related to product quality and production efficiency.
- Comply with Quality Management System standards per Newterra’s internal quality standards.
- Complete all assigned training applicable to the position within the required timeframe.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED plus 1-3 years of equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of blasting materials, methods, and tools.
- Detail oriented to ensure the highest level of product quality.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- Dependable.

Physical Demands
Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, heavy equipment, and machinery. Requires accurate hand/eye coordination, finger dexterity, hand strength, and the ability to grasp, lift, push, and pull. Requires standing, bending, and ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Lifting up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, hazardous equipment, heat, dust, fumes, and other materials. May involve extreme temperatures depending on indoor/outdoor conditions. Company safety standards must be followed.
