About the Opportunity:
A well-established technology and defense organization is seeking a highly skilled Hardware Engineer — Circuit Card Design to join their engineering team onsite in Carlsbad, CA. This role is ideal for experienced engineers with a passion for designing cutting-edge, high-speed digital circuit boards used in encrypted communications systems. You’ll work cross-functionally with systems, programmable logic, software, and test teams on mission-critical projects that support national security.
REQUIRED: U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Salary: $130,000 – $200,000 (depending on experience) full benefits (medical/dental/vision/401k match more)
Location: Fully Onsite in Carlsbad, CA
Responsibilities:
Design, prototype, and test high-speed digital circuit boards with components such as microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, networking, optical interfaces, and power supplies
Perform schematic capture, simulation, layout collaboration, and signal integrity analysis using tools like Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Expedition, and Hyperlynx
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout development, production, and post-deployment support
Conduct trade studies, design for manufacturability, and make-or-buy analyses
Work hands-on with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and pattern generators
Support design documentation, troubleshooting, and debugging for both development and production environments
Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of components and solutions
Contribute to design reviews and technical reporting to internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical or Computer Engineering
8 years of hands-on hardware design experience, ideally in high-speed board design
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Strong foundation in both analog and digital circuit principles
Proficiency in schematic capture, simulation, and layout tools (DxDesigner, Expedition, Hyperlynx)
Clear communicator with strong documentation and collaborative skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in secure or encrypted communications hardware
Familiarity with design for manufacture, test, and assembly processes
Exposure to embedded cryptographic systems or information assurance technologies
Experience with standard lab/test equipment and production environments
Ability to analyze and resolve production or field-related hardware issues
