Principal Software Engineer, OCI Media Services
Location: This role can be based out of Austin, TX; Nashville, TN; or Broomfield, CO.
Overview As a Principal Engineer in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, you will lead design, implementation and operation of cloud services focused on the digital media production industry. You will work on services such as virtual animation workstation, digital asset management, high performance storage, render farm as a service, license management and production pipeline management services. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role with opportunities for technical innovation and mentorship of other engineers.
Responsibilities
Cloud service design for availability, scalability, observability and testability.
Implementation, validation and documentation of services and their component microservices.
Collaborate within the engineering team to deliver and operate cloud services that enable animation, film and game development studios to run production workflows in the cloud.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, ensuring compliance and driving innovation.
Launch new cloud services and establish operational excellence.
Lead implementations to realize and achieve the technical vision of the team.
Engage with geographically distributed engineering teams.
Coach and mentor other members of the engineering staff.
Establish and ensure compliance with software development standards, processes and best practices.
Qualifications
BS/CS in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years software development experience.
Large/enterprise-scale software development and engineering experience, especially with cloud services and distributed systems.
Domain knowledge and experience with workflows and pipelines for media production (digital asset management, namespaces, 3D frameworks, universal scene description, scene graphs, layers/models, 3D data packaging, rendering workflows, image composition, tools used by artists, engineers and editors) is highly desired.
Experience as a lead developer in the design, implementation and operation of cloud services.
Experience collaborating with geo-distributed teams.
Extensive background in software implementation, code/design reviews, and root cause analysis of failures.
Designing for availability, observability, scalability, testability and recoverability.
