ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructing ESOL classes using a variety of active and engaging teaching strategies/learning activities and student assessment methods. Planning, organizing and preparing classes, including developing lesson plans. Assessing students' language, related needs and adapting instruction to fit those needs while attaining learning objectives. Developing learning materials that support the learning objectives and planned activities. Assessing which engagement and teaching strategies are effective for this population and contributing to the continued evaluation and improvement of program curriculum and assessment. Manage the classroom effectively. COMPETENCIES Minimum of one-year teaching experience teaching ESOL; previous experience working with older adult community preferred. Excellent verbal and written customer service skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to multi-task, work independently and be a self-starter. Be punctual, reliable, organized and efficient to run an effective class. Interest and ability to work with senior citizens and volunteers. Commitment to organizations mission, vision and values. Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities. Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.).
