Basic Function
The Standardized Patient Instructor (SPI) teach learners techniques, including but not limited to history-taking, physical examination, communication, empathy, etc. SPIs must complete a rigorous initial training module as well as refresher training prior to all teaching sessions. During teaching sessions, SPIs will engage learners by providing them step by step instructions on techniques. SPIs will use their body as the teaching tool.
All SP work is supervised by the SP Educator, Administrative Manager, Operations Manager and the Director of Simulation & Clinical Skills. Work hours will vary and are dependent upon course schedules. SPs are permitted a maximum of 58 hours per pay period and are requested to work a minimum of 25 hours per pay period, subject to course needs.

Principal Accountabilities
General Responsibilities Interpret the mission and aim of the Simulation and Clinical Skills Center Competent as a General Standardize Patient Simulate all aspects of scenarios, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner. Interprets the program curriculum to healthcare learners Serve as a role model Maintains current simulation and clinical skills knowledge Attends and completes all training sessions Wear professional clinical attire for work assignments including a hospital gown with only appropriate undergarments, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with work scheduling and assignments. Allow and be comfortable with having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on body by learners and clinical faculty. Accept ongoing feedback from supervisors to incorporate into case simulation. Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations (onsite and virtual). Follow written and verbal instructors from supervisors Follow all Center and HU Policies and Procedures Possess a positive and proactive mindset. Teaching/Instructor Skills Proactively create an inclusive learning environment Orients students to learning objectives and clinical setting Demonstrative effective organizational skills and time management in presenting curriculum to learners Teach and reinforce clinical concepts Teach learners how to use specific medical equipment Help students to acquire appropriate skills Provide verbal feedback to learners using constructive feedback training. Evaluates learner progress Maintains learner information in a confidential manner Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must be of legal status to work in the US. Must be computer literate and proficient. Must successfully complete initial HU Introduction to Standardized Methodology workshop for scheduling.
Preferred: Experience as an SP. Experience in an academic, healthcare, or simulation learning environment preferred.
