The Monitor is an entry-level position that works to provide security of the program premises and safety for program clients, visitors, and employees. Driving ability is preferred. Duties and Responsibilities

SHELTER SECURITY Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, visitors, guests and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises Screen participants’ and visitors’ bags and persons entering the shelter; treat every participant with dignity and professionalism Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates SHELTER SAFETY Observe shelter during patrols to ensure safe operations; report and correct spills, unsafe conditions, or defective equipment Know location of fire exits and assist participants in emergencies Monitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance; report to clinical/case management staff as required Call police or fire department in emergencies ASSET PROTECTION Protect shelter assets and report suspicious activity; complete written reports and incident logs CLIENT/PARTICIPANT SUPPORT Answer telephones, monitor doors, greet visitors Maintain cleanliness of common areas, laundry areas and restrooms Assist shelter staff with services to clients/participants, including meal preparation/serving, monitoring medication, and setup for events DRIVING TASKS (for licensed Monitors) Transport participants to various locations; assist with securing mobility devices; ensure passenger safety Other duties as required and may be subject to change Acts as a role model for participants; put clients’/participants’ needs first Essential Duties

SHELTER SECURITY: Monitor entrance, screen bags and persons, patrol premises SHELTER SAFETY: Monitor clients, conduct room checks, report safety concerns ASSET PROTECTION: Complete written reports and incident logs Client/Participant support and driving duties as directed Other duties as required Qualifications

Requirements:

Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including verification of personal references, employment and education Education:

Within 30 days of hire, must successfully complete VOALA safety training Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED Current California driver’s license and clean driving record; knowledge of CA driving laws Database familiarity Clean driving record to be insurable by VOALA insurance Volunteers of America is an Equal Opportunity employer.
