Medical Laboratory Scientist 1-21737 at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for performing all assigned laboratory testing and reporting for the testing area. The role requires teamwork to achieve goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients. Work Type: Part Time (Total FTE between 0.5 and 0.89). Shift: Shift 2. Work Schedule: 8 Hr (3:00PM - 11:30PM). Department: RML Chemistry. Location: Chicago, Illinois. Responsibilities

Performs laboratory testing and reporting for the assigned testing area. Utilizes required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by the lab area. Labels and processes specimens properly. Performs all laboratory procedures efficiently and in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Provides quality control (QC) procedures and preventive maintenance, including corrective action and documentation. Recognizes QC problems or discrepancies and notifies the supervisor as required. Performs basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes; documents actions and notifies appropriate personnel as needed. Manages time effectively, assists colleagues, and adheres to shift task timelines and break schedules. Completes 12 hours of laboratory continuing education per year. Participates in special projects, procedure evaluations, and training of staff and students; supports process improvement activities. May perform duties of tech-in-charge for specified periods; follows departmental guidelines and defers issues to appropriate personnel when necessary. Reviews lab results, flags and communicates critical results within defined time frames, and ensures accurate transcription into the Laboratory Information System. Maintains a neat, clean, organized work area and ensures appropriate stocking and disinfection per procedures. Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science, biological science, chemistry, or education/work experience meeting high-complexity testing qualifications per CLIA 42 CFR 493.1489. Certification: Certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency is required; some laboratory disciplines may require additional criteria. Acceptable Credentials (depending on laboratory section) may include: MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), BB (ASCP), Chemistry (C) (ASCP), Cytogenetics (CG) (ASCP), Cytotechnologist (CT) (ASCP), Hematology (H) (ASCP), Microbiology (M) (ASCP), Molecular Biology (MB) (ASCP), Specialty in Cytometry (SCYM) (ASCP), Technologist in HLA (CHT) (ACHI), MLT (AACC/ASCP) with minimum of 5 contiguous years of high-complexity laboratory experience. Experience: Bachelor’s degree with certification; no prior experience required, or Associate’s degree/education/work experience qualifications as defined by CLIA with MLT or equivalent and 5 contiguous years of experience (some sections may have more stringent requirements). Physical Demands

Able to work in a fast-paced, potentially stressful, computerized environment. Able to lift up to 20 lbs and perform repetitive motions. Work environment includes exposure to potentially infectious and hazardous materials. Equal Opportunity
