Overview
Cleaner role at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. The Department of Facilities Management and Development is seeking a full-time Cleaner to maintain assigned areas in State buildings, and surrounding grounds and walkways. Cleaners may work independently or as part of a team in settings such as administrative offices, classrooms, hospitals, laboratories, living areas, treatment areas, and other work spaces. Illustrative Duties
Perform a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned areas. Collect and empty trash and recycling; clean or remove hazardous or misplaced items, waste, and spills; dispose or place materials in appropriate receptacles following proper cleaning procedures. Assemble cleaning carts, prepare, mix, and dilute cleaning solutions per manufacturer directions. Wash floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices. Vacuum, strip and wax floors, and shampoo carpets using manual or mechanical equipment. Scrub and clean showers and restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and drains, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents. Replace light bulbs, dust or wash light fixtures and high places using ladders and appropriate equipment. Polish wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment. Monitor cleaning supplies and equipment; notify supervisor of supply levels, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance issues observed during cleaning. Replace, clean, and/or hang building fixtures and decorative items such as curtains, blinds, and pictures. Move and arrange furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities. May follow specialized disinfectant, waste disposal, and cleanliness standards; remove snow and salt walkways; clean sidewalks, drives, and grounds; mow lawns; perform routine laundry tasks; and change bed linens.
