Overview
Economists at Valve apply quantitative analysis to in-game economies and Steam features. Projects have included building quantitative models to identify what leads to fun and rewarding experiences, exploring social institutions and economic phenomena in virtual economies, studying tastes on Steam, and conducting experiments to test hypotheses about Steam features and in-game economies. Responsibilities
Build quantitative models to identify factors that lead to engaging and rewarding experiences with Valve products. Analyze in-game virtual economies and social institutions to inform product decisions. Study how tastes and usage evolve on Steam, Valve's game distribution platform. Conduct experiments to test hypotheses about Steam features and in-game economies. Provide economic and empirical rationale to inform group decision-making processes. Qualifications
Graduate degree in Economics or related field. Advanced knowledge of applied statistics and econometrics. Extensive practical experience applying these methods to guide decision-making. Proficiency writing and shipping SQL code in a large-scale relational database environment. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, PHP, and Python. Seniority level
