Overview
The Wonderful Company is a privately held, rapidly moving consumer products company seeking a sharp, business-minded Regulatory & Privacy Counsel to balance compliance with creativity. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Global Regulatory Affairs & Privacy, the role will lead day-to-day counseling and compliance related to FDA, FTC/consumer protection, and privacy/data protection issues for our food and beverage businesses. You’ll advise on labeling, claims, marketing practices, and responsible data use to help our brands innovate confidently while maintaining compliance and consumer trust. This position is based in West Los Angeles, CA with a hybrid schedule (in-office Monday–Wednesday; remote Thursday and Friday). The Wonderful legal team is a full-service group with approximately 100 individuals (including 50 attorneys). We partner directly with our brands and perform in-house legal work without relying on outside counsel. FDA Compliance: Counsel on food labeling, packaging, ingredient disclosures, nutrition facts/claims, and product development. Marketing & Advertising: Review product claims, promotional campaigns, and digital and influencer marketing to ensure compliance with FDA, FTC, and privacy standards; advise on substantiation of health, nutrition, and sustainability/environmental claims. Consumer Protection: Advise on state and federal statutes including junk fee and price transparency laws, automatic renewal/negative option laws, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and related marketing laws. Privacy & Data Protection: Provide guidance on consumer data privacy and security practices, including compliance with privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA, and state privacy laws); review marketing, e-commerce, and digital advertising for privacy compliance; develop privacy policies, notices, and internal data-handling practices. Agency Engagement: Draft responses to inquiries from the FDA, FTC, state attorneys general, and other regulators. Monitoring & Strategy: Track regulatory, enforcement, and legislative trends across FDA, FTC, privacy, and state AGs; advise leadership on impact, emerging trends, and strategic mitigation. Compliance Programs: Design and deliver policies, training, and SOPs to strengthen compliance culture across FDA, consumer protection, and privacy areas. Qualifications
3–6 years of legal experience in FDA compliance, consumer protection, and/or privacy law (law firm, government, or in-house). J.D. from a top-tier school with active bar membership in good standing. California bar membership not required. Big law and/or in-house counsel experience in food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods. Background in digital marketing, subscription/renewal programs, and consumer data use. Familiarity with global privacy frameworks (GDPR, Canada’s PIPEDA, etc.). Excellent communicator with the ability to deliver business-minded and risk-balanced advice; strong collaboration across R&D, marketing, compliance, and operations. Confident presence with resilience to navigate ambiguity, pushback, and high-stakes decisions; adaptable to a fast-paced, evolving environment; growth mindset and willingness to learn new areas of law and regulation. Pay and Benefits
Pay Range:
$230,000 – $250,000, with discretionary bonus potential. Final compensation based on skills and experience. Additional Information
