Overview The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified

Dental Hygienist 2

for the Monroe Correctional Complex located in Monroe, WA. This position provides relief coverage as a Dental Assistant to ensure patient access to quality, medically appropriate dental services with proper documentation in accordance with DOC policies and procedures, and the clinician's license and job class. This role is part of ensuring quality, safe health services and continuity of care for patients served by DOC Health Services. Adherence to professional guidelines, the Incarcerated Health Plan, the DOC formulary, and other statewide publications and algorithms is expected. This position is a critical element of facility safety due to the connection between dental health, pain management, service provision, and behavior outcomes.

Responsibilities

Record health histories and take/record blood pressure and vital signs.

Perform head and neck exam; conduct oral inspection and measure periodontal pockets (no diagnosis).

Provide patient education on oral hygiene.

Take intra-oral and extra-oral radiographs and photographs; provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions.

Provide fluoride treatments and deliver oral antibiotic prophylaxis as prescribed by a dentist.

Administer local anesthetic agents and adjunctive procedures; apply topical anesthetics.

Perform oral prophylaxis and remove deposits and stains; sterilize equipment and disinfect operatories.

Perform deep cleanings (scaling/root planing); place retraction cord; place temporary fillings after examination (e.g., ZOE, IRM).

Pack and medicate extraction areas.

Under close supervision: remove soft tissue under gingiva (curettage); place restorations and, if trained, carve/contour and adjust contacts and occlusion.

Place approved medications (antimicrobials) under the dentist's direction; place restorations into prepared cavities as applicable.

Coordinate with the assigned Patient Services Representative to schedule patients in compliance with the dentist’s treatment plan.

Cooperate with health services and custody staff to ensure continuity of care, safety, and security.

Communicate effectively in English with incarcerated individuals, vendors, and staff; perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations and orderliness.

Documentation of encounters and treatment plans in patient records and in OMNI-HS; participate in equipment counts and logs; respond to patient inquiries related to dental hygiene services.

Qualifications

Unrestricted license to practice Dental Hygiene in Washington State.

Two years of experience in clinical dentistry.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
