About the Department
The Department of Life and Earth Sciences (LES) at Perimeter College encompasses coursework in biology, environmental science, geology, and integrated sciences. Academic pathways in Biology and Geology are available through the department, but LES courses also support other academic interests, such as chemistry, environmental science, and education. LES faculty are recognized for teaching excellence and engagement with the community and professional organizations and offer undergraduate research opportunities. LES faculty participate in professional organizations and activities such as serving as judges for K-12 science fairs. Initiatives support pathways for study and careers in STEM fields.
Faculty members hold memberships in organizations such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), and Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL). Some hold leadership roles in professional organizations.

Position Description
Perimeter College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Geology. This is a teaching-focused position: 80% of workload is instruction, with 10% service and 10% scholarly/creative activity. Faculty are responsible for 27-32 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engagement in service to the department, college, and university. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a diverse setting. Teaching assignments may be on any campus of the college.
Required Experience
Assistant professor: Some college teaching experience (e.g., graduate TA, part-time instructor). Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000. Associate professor: Candidate must have held the rank previously at a comparable institution for at least one academic year. Salary commensurate with experience.
Required Education
A Ph.D. in the teaching field is required by the time of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
The preferred candidate will have: Prior Geology teaching experience at the collegiate level (one year preferred), including experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university. Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform. Interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, and building college-to-career linkages to enhance student success. Interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to teach effectively using varied methods with knowledge of instructional technology. Ability to create belonging for a diverse student population and support learning in in-person and virtual environments. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and computer skills (including maintaining records). Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology. Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve department or college goals.
