Overview
Automation Engineer (onsite role in MA) at AbbVie. This role focuses on developing automation technologies and manufacturing control systems to improve site productivity, quality, and safety. The Automation Engineer supports drug product manufacturing through engineering, configuration, programming, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of process controls, automation, electrical devices, and field instrumentation technologies. Base pay range $64,000.00/yr - $122,000.00/yr Responsibilities
Support a Safe working environment by aligning with environmental health, safety, and maintenance program practices, rules, and regulations. Understand cGMP processing with change control, nonconformance, corrective & preventative actions, and Commissioning & Qualification activities. Experience with product platforms, including: Rockwell PLC Platform Emerson DeltaV Provide day-to-day operational support, including 24 x 7 onsite/on-call rotational support and troubleshooting for manufacturing. Serve as a knowledgeable SME for Upstream and Downstream Unit operations, performing troubleshooting to enhance uptime and reliability of automation systems. Drive continuous improvement in partnership with Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, and OpEx to improve operational efficiencies. Collaborate within AbbVie network to learn, implement, and share continuous improvement opportunities within Drug Product manufacturing across AbbVie Global network. Apply automation engineering principles in design, specification, construction, startup, commissioning, and qualification of process equipment and systems for capital projects of significant scope and complexity; familiarity with project life cycles preferred. Develop and maintain engineering specifications, documents, drawings, SOPs (including Administrative SOPs and Job Aids), and ensure alignment with URS/DS/FS requirements; provide user requirements to OEMs/System Integrators for PLC, HMI, SCADA, and MES (e.g., POMS) development. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11 (Data Integrity, User Security, disaster recovery, data backup & restore). Communicate effectively at various partner forums in the workplace. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in developing and maintaining automation software and PLC systems in a manufacturing environment; AI and machine learning experience and involvement in new technology development for new product introductions. Direct experience with system development and validation, including development of DS/FS/URS and risk-based validation strategies, and validation protocol development and execution. Demonstrated knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for automated systems in pharmaceutical or medical device industries. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and innovative thinking to develop and implement untested solutions. Additional Information
The compensation range described is the range of base pay currently believed to be paid for this role; actual compensation depends on location, experience, and other factors and may be modified in the future.
