Role overview and requirements for this position include full life-cycle power design for architectures used in RF electronic warfare, IRCM, imaging systems, and real-time embedded control systems. The Power Design Engineer will perform concept-to-production development, test, and integration including power conversion architectures, circuit design, and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
High efficiency, switch-mode power supply architectures for image processing, embedded processing, and Receiver/Exciter designs
Subsystem/module circuit designs for custom and COTS systems, involving COTS & MIL-STD interfaces
Regulatory compliance to DoD customer requirements (e.g., MIL-STD-704, 461, 464 & DO-160) and TEMPEST
Design and development of power conversion architectures to support gigabit serial interfaces, RF/EO DSP, controls, data links, and embedded processing platforms
Collaboration with system, sub-system, and hardware engineers to define requirements, architect topologies, and PCB layouts
Verification through SPICE simulation, laboratory testing, and qualification to electrical, mechanical, E3, EMI/EMC requirements
Documentation and configuration management throughout the product life cycle
Basic Qualifications
For Principal Power Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or similar with at least 5 years of power electronics design experience, or 3 years with a master’s degree
Switch Mode Power Supply circuit design experience, including schematic capture through test and integration
Hands-on prototyping and debugging complex power systems with various switch-mode topologies and linear regulators
Ability to translate system requirements into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications
Experience leading projects with 2 or more team members
Familiarity with DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest or similar documentation and revision control systems
Strong communication and collaboration skills; adaptable and problem-solving mindset
U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Basic Qualifications
For Sr. Principal Power Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or similar with at least 8 years of power electronics design experience or 6 years with a master’s degree
Switch Mode Power Supply circuit design experience, including schematic capture through test and integration
Hands-on prototyping and debugging of complex power systems
Ability to translate system requirements into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications
Experience leading projects with 2 or more team members
Familiarity with DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest or similar documentation and revision control systems
Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaborative skills; comfortable working independently
U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Power Conversion (5+ years of experience)
Working knowledge of Electronic Warfare hardware
Experience with Cadence Concept/Allegro and LTSpice
Experience designing high-frequency magnetics and EMI/EMC considerations
Document control systems experience similar to DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest
Project planning and cross-functional collaboration skills
Current Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance
Salary ranges:
Primary Level Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00
The above salary range is a general guideline; actual offers are based on factors such as scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, and market conditions.
Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply. Long-Term Incentives may be available for VP/Director levels. Northrop Grumman provides benefits including health, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company-paid holidays, and paid time off.
