Overview
The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and producing high-quality images in accordance with department and hospital policies. Responsibilities include educational presentations to physicians and staff, and routine departmental maintenance as needed.
Responsibilities
Perform echocardiograms and prepare patients for testing.
Provide data/results to the cardiologist with minimal supervision and prepare a preliminary report for the reading physician.
Conduct diagnostic quality echocardiograms with thorough interrogation of normal and abnormal cardiac and extracardiac anatomy across age ranges (neonatal to adult).
Perform all quantitative measurements from M-Mode, 2D and Doppler studies.
Assist with transesophageal, epicardial and intracardiac echocardiographic studies.
Identify indications and limitations of exams and procedures; order and manage inventory and supplies.
Assist with special projects, policies, procedures, and performance improvement activities; evaluate new equipment and procedures and provide recommendations.
Maintain room and equipment readiness; ensure cleanliness and proper setup for daily operations.
Maintain quality control and preventive maintenance of diagnostic equipment per manufacturers’ recommendations; participate in quality improvement activities.
Participate in in-services and education related to cardiology; may assist with data collection for research and performance improvement; may precept new staff.
Licenses and Certifications
Registered through ARDMS or CCI as a medical sonographer or cardiac sonographer.
ARDMS pediatric registry or CCI congenital cardiac sonographer registry (required at Manning Family).
American Heart Association, Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider.
