Overview

Fairview is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician at M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center. This is a full-time position, with 80 hours per pay period, 9:00am-5:30pm or 10:00am-6:30pm. No weekends required. The Clinics and Surgery Center Laboratory is a fast-paced, high complexity laboratory serving a unique and diverse patient population. Our team of over 45 staff members delivers exceptional care and accurate, timely results to clinicians. The Laboratory Care Technician (LCT) plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in a healthcare environment, including specimen collection, handling, testing, and information management. The LCT works as an individual or team member to support the department and achieve M Health Fairview goals.

Responsibilities

Follows established guidelines to obtain biological specimens and perform procedures.

Collects biological specimens with appropriate technique following SOPs.

Performs phlebotomy at various sites and communicates special handling needs of specimens.

Uses effective communication to meet patient/family and customer needs.

Demonstrates proficiency with point-of-care testing and/or waived testing.

May perform EKGs and train others in phlebotomy skills.

Ensures specimens are acceptable for testing with proper identification.

Processes specimens prior to testing or sending to reference labs.

Performs daily quality control, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.

Monitors inventory, ordering and restocking supplies.

Mentors and teaches students; prioritizes work to optimize patient outcomes.

Transports blood and body fluids under proper conditions and in a safe manner.

Seeks assistance for problems or unusual situations; manages information processing.

Accurately enters and releases order and collection information into LIS and subsystems; monitors computer logs for incomplete work; schedules tests/procedures; provides results in LIS/HIS and by phone.

Acquires additional computer skills as appropriate to the work area; supports quality assurance and a safe work environment; adheres to safety and infection control guidelines.

Responds appropriately to emergent situations.

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or higher?

Diploma, GED, equivalency evaluation, or transcript must be provided.

Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program or three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience or enrollment in MLT or MLS program including completion of a phlebotomy course.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting.

Ability to work under stress in a variety of situations and exercise independent judgment.

Demonstrates manual dexterity and competence in collecting blood samples.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity.

Beaker experience.
