About the Biosolids Practice The Biosolids Practice resides within the Water Business Group in the Wastewater Market Sector. It serves local municipalities, private entities, wastewater utilities, Federal, regional and local governments, and similar clients in the 50 states and Canada. HDR's wastewater market has approximately 700 employees; HDR was ranked fourth in ENR's 2023 wastewater treatment category. The role focuses on expanding HDR's biosolids management and solids processing capabilities across North America.
Responsibilities
Lead HDR’s Biosolids practice through technical leadership, business development, relationship building, and direct billable work for biosolids management and solids processing projects; targeted to grow HDR’s market share and branding in North America.
Participate in Water Business Group strategic and tactical planning, develop a solids processing and biosolids management business plan for regional areas, and lead organization-wide communications on biosolids market leadership.
Conduct marketplace assessments, gauge HDR prospects, and develop prioritized client targets.
Develop discreet biosolids business plans for local HDR offices in collaboration with WBG leadership and Area Business Development Managers.
Leverage industry contacts to expand relationships with HDR staff and clients in key locations aligned with biosolids development plans.
Lead development of solids processing and biosolids management project experience qualifications and related marketing materials.
Lead and participate in direct project pursuits including client relationship development, premarketing, qualifications, proposals, interview content, scopes of work, project budgets, and contract negotiations.
Support national and regional biosolids activities, including HDR image building and targeted project pursuit efforts.
Engage in regional and national biosolids committees and policy-making bodies and related associations and conferences as appropriate.
Participate in WBG Practice Group on biosolids and biogas and in HDR teams focused on treatment technologies and management of biosolids and biogas.
Disseminate information on marketplace developments, regulatory updates, and emerging biosolids technologies to HDR staff and clients.
Participate in national project pursuits for solids processing and biosolids, including preparation of statements of qualifications, technical approaches, proposals, and interviews.
Direct billable work on wastewater biosolids consulting assignments serving municipal and industrial clients.
Perform QA/QC reviews of biosolids management plans and solids processing projects.
Participate on project teams in project manager or principal roles for solids processing and biosolids projects.
Manage select biosolids projects or lead task roles on solids projects.
Required Qualifications
BS in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or a related sciences discipline.
15+ years of technical experience with all aspects of wastewater biosolids processing including thickening/dewatering, digestion, advanced stabilization, thermal hydrolysis, heat drying, beneficial end use (including land application), resource (biogas) recovery and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related sciences.
Registered Professional Engineer.
5+ years of proven experience in project management including invoicing, budget and schedule controls, and management of project staff.
Experience with client development responsibilities such as workshops, presentations, proposal content development, and business development strategy.
Experience in managing or leading process mechanical projects, including digester and biogas facilities at wastewater treatment plants.
